LAGOS POLICE FOIL "OBI OF LAGOS" UNVEILING CEREMONY, ARREST FOUR SUSPECTS

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a self-acclaimed traditional ruler, Engr. Chibuike Azubike, who paraded himself as the "Obi of Lagos," along with three accomplices. The arrests were made on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. According to the police, Azubike, 65, from Obodoukwu Ancient Kingdom in Imo State, was arrested alongside Chief Chibuzor Ani, 57; Chief Martins Nwaodika, 65; and Mr. Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi, 41. The suspects are currently in custody at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja. The police had received intelligence that the group planned to unveil a prototype of a purported ₦1.5 billion "Palace of Obi of Lagos State" on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin. To prevent the ceremony from holding, the police sealed off the venue and deployed personnel to maintain law and order. Oworonshoki Residents Protest Demolition of Buildings, Block Third Mainland Bridge

Oworonshoki residents took to the streets today to protest the demolition of buildings in their community, blocking a section of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.  The protesters, who were displaced by the demolition, expressed their grievances with placards that read "Stop demolishing our houses" and "Give us back our lands and houses". The demolition, which was carried out by the Lagos State Government, affected several buildings in the Oworonshoki area, leaving many residents without homes. The government had cited concerns over the safety and environmental impact of the buildings as the reason for the demolition. The protest caused heavy traffic on the Third Mainland Bridge, with many motorists and passengers stranded. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, and other officers were deployed to the scene to maintain order. .

LASBCA Ignores Suspension Order, Continues Demolition of Residential Buildings in Oworonshoki Community

Contrary to widespread reports that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had ordered the suspension of the demolition of buildings in Ojulari community, Oworonshoki for two weeks, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has continued the demolition exercise of the area, leaving many residents homeless. The suspension order, which was reportedly issued following the intervention of Hon. Sanni Okanlawon, the lawmaker representing Kosofe constituency 1, appears to have been a hoax. According to one of the affected residents, who expressed frustration and disappointment at the government's actions, Mrs. Grace Familusi, the entire area has now been demolished, except for a Celestial Church and Oworonshoki Police Station.
