LASBCA Ignores Suspension Order, Continues Demolition of Residential Buildings in Oworonshoki Community
Contrary to widespread reports that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had ordered the suspension of the demolition of buildings in Ojulari community, Oworonshoki for two weeks, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has continued the demolition exercise of the area, leaving many residents homeless.
The suspension order, which was reportedly issued following the intervention of Hon. Sanni Okanlawon, the lawmaker representing Kosofe constituency 1, appears to have been a hoax.
According to one of the affected residents, who expressed frustration and disappointment at the government's actions, Mrs. Grace Familusi, the entire area has now been demolished, except for a Celestial Church and Oworonshoki Police Station.
The demolition, which began at 2 am on Saturday, was carried out with the aid of bulldozers and RRS officers, who allegedly woke residents and gave them only 5 minutes to pack their belongings. The chaotic scene was further exacerbated by the use of tear gas by police at around 12 am.
The Lagos State government has been criticized for its handling of the demolition exercise, with many residents calling for its halt.
