OLOWORO CONVENES STAKEHOLDERS MEETING ON SECURITY, CHARGES RESIDENTS TO MAKE SECURITY A COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY

*Calls For Prompt Payment Of Security Dues

*Renovates Alonge Police Station
*Repairs Two Police Patrol Vehicles
*Security Committee To Take Stringent Action Against Defaulters

The Oloworo of Oworonshoki Kingdom, Oba Babatunde Saliu (Elebo II) has charged the residents of the community to take the issue of security as a collective responsibility by cooperating with the security committee and ensuring prompt payment of security dues.

Oba Babatunde Saliu made the charge on Saturday while addressing some stakeholders of the community at a special security meeting held in his palace.
Addressing the stakeholders, Oloworo stressed that the protection of the lives and property of his subjects was very paramount to him and that he would not tolerate any form of criminality in his domain.

While noting that there was relative peace and tranquillity in the community, he warned that violence and criminality may find their way back should the residents persist in not paying their security dues.
He, therefore, urged residents to take their security as a collective responsibility and support the security committee in cash and kind.

And while wondering why a house would be unable to pay a meagre amount of N1000 monthly security dues, Oloworo implored the landlords to take up the responsibility upon themselves.

"The protection of lives and property is a difficult one but a collective responsibility of everyone.

" I, therefore, appealed to all and sundry to join hands with the security committee and its task force.
"There is no reason why a house can not pay N1000 monthly security levy and houses that are not paying are responsible for the security crises we are facing in Oworo.

" We will not support criminality. We are going to do our best in ensuring the protection of lives and property of the people living in Oworo": Oloworo said.
Oba Babatunde Saliu also noted that there was an urgent need to enhance the performance of the Neighborhood Security otherwise known as "Madanwo" by adding to the patrol vehicles in their custody.

According to him patrol vehicles would have to be stationed in strategic places such as Olojojo, Olopomo meji inward Ogudu, Surulere, Olorunfunmi and Awolowo streets and some other places to prevent robbery operations.

He said by so doing it would boost the confidence of the residents in Madanwo and thereby encourage them to pay their dues.
He submitted that if the efficiency and effectiveness of Madanwo are enhanced, there would be no need for Streets internal security arrangements.

Also speaking at the stakeholders meeting, the Divisional Police officer (DPO) of Oworonshoki Police Station, Alonge, DCP Oyin Francis represented by SP Raphael Ozuke assured the stakeholders of adequate protection of their lives and property.

She, however, warned that the police would not tolerate undue interference in the discharge of their duties, stressing that all criminals arrested would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
While stating that the purpose of criminal punishment is to serve as a deterrence, she warned that undue interference with their duties would further cause security problems in the community.

She, therefore, appealed to the stakeholders to give them a free hand to carry out their responsibilities and also promised to walk hand-in-hand with the Amotekun.

While calling on the residents to join hands with the police in tackling security problems in the community as the government alone cannot protect lives and property, the DPO lamented the failure of residents of the community in joining the Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) which she noted was an important arm of the security committee.
She, however, praised Oba Babatunde Saliu for coming to the aid of Alonge police station to renovate its offices and repair two of its five broken-down patrol vehicles.

She expressed delight that Oworonshoki community is blessed with a learned and well-exposed traditional ruler.

Earlier in his address, the secretary of Oworonshoki Security committee Hon. Adebowale Oke bemoaned the uncooperative attitude of some houses in the payment of their monthly security dues and warned that the committee may take stringent action against such defaulters.

He disclosed that many houses have not paid their monthly security dues for a very long time and that the Neighborhood security Operatives may be disengaged as the security committee was cash strapped.

While stating that Madanwo has been doing a good job, he warned landlords to desist from the act of using them for what they were not originally meant for like engaging them to intimidate tenants to pay house rents.

The Security committee secretary further cleared the air on many questions asked by the stakeholders such as fading bank payment slips, delayed issuance of receipts, nonpayment by some houses from the inception of the security exercise and delayed response of Madanwo to an emergency situation among others.
The Chairman of the committee Chief T. O Ashiru, the Asiwaju of Oworonshoki thanked Oloworo of Oworonshoki Oba Babatunde Saliu for hosting the stakeholders meeting on security.

He also thanked the residents for attending the security meeting.

Chief Ashiru, however, appealed to the residents of the community to cooperate with the security committee and pay their security dues.
