I AM A NATURAL GIVER, I DON'T MAKE A FUSS ABOUT ASSISTANCE I RENDER TO INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITIES ON SOCIAL MEDIA - SDP CANDIDATE LANRE CAREW
*Sinks over 12 Boreholes Water Projects
*Repairs Culverts and Bad Roads
* Assists Individuals and Communities with Millions of Naira
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate vying for the seat of Lagos State House of Assembly in Kosofe constituency 1, Hon. Olanrewaju Carew has described himself as a natural giver and a veritable philanthropist who renders to individuals and communities alike without any ulterior motive of being praised on social media and the public.
Hon. Carew made the descriptive statement last week during an interactive session with some media outfits against the backdrop of unpublicized community projects he has executed and financial assistance he has rendered to individuals and communities across Kosofe Local Government in recent times.
The business mogul since the beginning of this year had sunk no less than 12 boreholes in different communities in the Constituency to ameliorate the paucity of water shortage in the Constituency without making a fuss of them either on social media or in public places.
He had also repaired bad roads and culverts and donated millions of naira in form of financial assistance to communities and individuals since he had been in politics.
When he was asked why he chose to keep quiet over the philanthropic services he had rendered instead of publicizing them on the pages of newspapers and social media to boost his chances of winning the forthcoming Lagos State House of Assembly election in Kosofe constituency 1, the Farm City International owner responded that it was not in his nature or style to celebrate such acts of generosity on his part on social media neither was he doing them because of the interest he wanted to get from them.
"I have done a lot of things in this community that people don't know of. It is only that I chose to keep it silent.
"I even make sure that people around me don't know about it. It is only when they thank me that they know of it.
"If you go round you see a lot of suffering. I really want to engage our youth and there are a lot of ways to empower them. That is why I insisted that workers handling the boreholes water projects must be bonafide residents of the communities
"I don't even know the particular figures of the boreholes that have been sunk. Whether it is ten or twelve I don't know.
"There are other places where they are repairing culverts and doing other road palliative works.
"When they come, they come through their community leaders and when you visit you can really see the challenges they are facing.
"When God has blessed you how else can you give back? It is through the people you interact with on daily basis.
"Will I now be celebrating them on social media that Carew has done this and that? This is not my style, Hon. Carew remarked.
The topmost contender for the Lagos state House of Assembly seat in Kosofe constituency 1 further stated that his sincerity of purpose and genuineness of his philanthropic acts had been responsible for the large followership and support he is presently enjoying in the Constituency ahead of the forthcoming Lagos State House of Assembly election.
He cited as an instance that after stepping down from the LAHA race in 2018 for the incumbent member of the Lagos Assembly, he doled out the 11 golf cars he bought for his electioneering campaign to his supporters.
He added that after the local government chairmanship primary election, he also bought cars for Ward Chairman that supported his aspiration.
He said: " I think people can read through the genuineness of people's acts of Kindness. I am very real. I don't render help to people just because of the interest I want to get from it.
"For instance, after stepping down in 2018 for the incumbent Lagos Assembly member, I bought 11 golf cars for the APC campaign when I was supposed to be bitter. After the election, I doled them out to party members.
"And after the Local Government Chairmanship election in 2021, I bought cars for the ward chairmen that supported me".
Hon. Carew while noting that politics goes hand in hand with his personality stated that he has been a philanthropist since he was a teenager and that he was dragged into politics by some notable members of APC who had noted his acts of philanthropy.
