Excitement as Ikorodu wins final of Tokunbo Abiru Lagos East Gold Cup

  It was fun at the Police Barracks Stadium in Ikorodu on Sunday as the 1st Tokunbo Abiru Lagos East Gold Cup came to an exciting end.  The tough road to the final saw Oladunjoye FC of Ikorodu facing Destiny Boys as the last two in the male category of the competition. An impressive Destiny Boys, however, carried the day by defeating their opponent by three goals to nothing with the team's energetic striker scoring a hattrick. The final was played under the watchful eyes of thousands of electrified spectators who trooped in from different parts of the Senatorial district to watch what they described as a first of its kind from a political aspirant.                                                     The final also had in attendance top leaders of the All Progressives Party from the Senatorial district and beyond.  Earlier in the day, the final of female category was also played with Victory Queens of Elepe emerging champions after defeating their opponents by a lone goal.  The cham

Lagos East by-election: opposition parties back Tokunbo Abiru

    No fewer than 58 opposition political parties have endorsed the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tokunbo Abiru, for the by-election holding in Lagos East District on Saturday. They also endorsed the APC candidate for the House of Assembly by-election in Kosofe Constituency 11, following their resolution at an endorsement ceremony held at Ogudu, Lagos suburb. The parties under the umbrella of ‘The Coalition of Political Parties in Lagos State (COPPILS)’ urged Lagosians to vote for the two flagbearers. The two seats became vacant, following the demise of Senator Bayo Osinowo and Tunde Braimoh. The political parties and associations include the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Alliance (AA), Peoples Republican Party( PRP), New Nigeria Peoples Party(NNPP), Alliance for Democracy (AD), AGA, MMN and NPN. Lagos East by-elections: INEC begs electorate to shun apathy, assures of security

      The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State appealed to eligible voters to come out in their large numbers for the upcoming by-elections on Saturday. INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos State, Sam Olumekun, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that the appeal became necessary in view of the voter apathy which usually characterized mid-season elections in the country He assured that adequate security arrangement had been put in place to ensure the safety of the electorate. According to him, voter apathy has become a great concern of the commission during elections and urged people to come out en masse to choose their representatives.
