The race for Somolu Federal Constituency intensified this week as Hon. Alabi Kolade David, former Executive Chairman of Bariga LCDA and immediate past National President of ALGON, received a wave of endorsements from community leaders, youth blocs, ward executives, and traditional institutions backing his bid for the House of Representatives in 2027. The political atmosphere in Kosofe is gathering pace ahead of the APC primary elections in May 2026 as two prominent All Progressives Congress figures, Abiodun Owokoya and Toyin Balogun, formally declared their ambitions for legislative seats.   Abiodun Owokoya, popularly known as Abbey Cheche, has joined the race for the House of Representatives in Kosofe Federal Constituency. Owokoya is not new to the contest. Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has held a consultation visit with elder statesman Otunba Busura Ishola Adedeji Alebiosu, popularly known as “Bush” Alebiosu, regarding his ambition to become the next Governor of Lagos State.   The meeting took place at the Mende residence of Otunba Alebiosu and was described by attendees as warm and reflective. The campaign organisation of Babatunde Shuaib Owokoniran (BSO), aspirant for Kosofe Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has dismissed what it described as a “malicious smear campaign” by political opponents over his family background. In a press statement signed by the BSO Campaign Media and made available to Kosofe Reporters on Saturday, the group accused detractors of resorting to “personal, childish attacks” by questioning the parentage of the aspirant in a bid to distract from their lack of vision. “It has come to our attention that political opponents, in a desperate attempt to distract from their lack of a vision, have resorted to spreading malicious falsehoods regarding our symbol parentage,” the statement read. Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has declared that all elective positions in the forthcoming primaries are open to contest, insisting there will be no imposition of candidates.
