A new pace in grassroots leadership and representation was set
over the weekend by the Deputy House Leader and Councillor of Ward A in
Ikosi-Isheri LCDA Hon. Folashade Akinpelu with the organization of
first-of-its-kind ward stakeholders’ meeting to render account of her stewardship
since assumption of office as councillor in 2017.
Hon. Akinpelu also used the opportunity of the event to provide
medical check-up, eye glasses, on-the-spot medical treatment and drugs free of
charge to hundreds of people who were in dire need of the facilities.
The events took place at De Royal Event Place 42/44 old
Olowoira road on Saturday December 12th 2020 before a large
gathering of constituents consisting of Party faithful, CDA, Artisans, Market
Women, Religious Leaders, Youth and women of the ward. While Hon. Prince Rotimi
Agunsoye, Member House of Representatives and some other party leaders such as APC Ikosi Isheri LCDA party chairman, Logun Sunday Jegede, Hon. Gbenga Osobu, Ikosi isheri Seccretary to the Local government Mr. Dolapo Basiru; Leader of the House, Hon. Usman Ajibola; House Chief Whip, Hon. Moruff Adeleye and chief Tele Ogunfadeke were
also present to grace the occasion.
In her Speech, Hon. Akinpelu disclosed that since assumption
of office as councillor representing Isheri, Olowoira, Magodo GRA Phase 1,
Otun-Araromi, Omole Phase II, Otedola Estate and Isheri North she had been able
to facilitate construction of 15 significant projects in her ward during the
administration of Late Fatai Oyesanya and the present Chairperson of
Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Princes Samiat Bada through the Lagos State Public Works and
the LCDA.
She went on to reel out the names of the projects she facilitated
through Lagos State Public Works as: Isheri/Magodo road, Ayodele Fanoiki road,
Bankole street, Agbedina street, Jimoh Sobowale Street, Ago-Ijaye Street
(ongoing) and grading of road 5, road 9, Farouk Aboaba road, Road 10 Vera
Dureke road , Somide Odujinrin street Omole PH II, Olowoira road and Old
Olowoira road.
She also listed roads facilitated through her LCDA as: Salami
Olonade street, Ajibode street, Kareem street, Moses Ogungbeye street, Fasogbon
street, construction of 6 blocks of classrooms at United African Church Primary
School Isheri, distribution of school materials to public schools and teachers
and construction of borehole for Orisa Community.
And while reeling out the list of projects she had been able
to facilitate in her ward, she made it known to the gathering that she had only
been able to facilitate the aforementioned projects through her goodwill as it
is not part of responsibility of councillor to construct public projects.
Her words: “A time comes in every leader’s life, where he must
render account of his stewardship to those who put him or her in power. Today at
this great occasion tagged: Community Forum/ Stewardship 2020, it is my
pleasure to give account give on the work done or facilitated so far by my
humble self since assumption of office in 2017.
“To give account on the projects executed in ward in ward A by
the former executive chairman, Ikosi- isheri LCDA, Late Hon. (Engr.) Abdulfatai
Oyesanya and by our present Chairperson Ikosi Isheri LCDA, Princess Samiat
Bada.
“Permit me to make a preliminary point that, contrary to
people’s believe, a councillor is not in any way empowered to do road projects,
but as a councillor, one can make use of his or her goodwill and office to
facilitate projects for the benefit of his or her ward and that is exactly what
I have done.”
She therefore thanked the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide
Sanwo-Olu for carrying out the road projects in her ward. She also thanked Hon.
Prince Rotimi Agunsoye for his support and guidance; and minister of state for
Health, Senator Olorunmbe Mamora for his contribution in reducing the spread of
Covid-19 in Lagos State.
Hon. Akinpelu equally expressed her gratitude to the entire
stakeholders in her ward for their supports and specifically thanked the youth
of the area for preventing the destruction of public and private properties in
the ward during the #EndSars protests.
She however advised the youth to show more involvement in
politics by engaging government in meaningful dialogue instead of resorting to
violence to express their grievances.
And as way of mitigating economic hardship on the people, she therefore
announced the flag off of free vocational training and provision of monthly
stipends for a year for some unemployed youth. While she also made provision
for cash and food palliatives for the widows and vulnerable in the ward.
The special guest of honour at the event Hon. Prince Rotimi Agunsoye
in his address praised the feat and exploit of Hon. Folashade Akinpelu describing
it as highly commendable for a representative at the ward level.
While stressing that it is not the responsibility of
legislator to embark on construction of public projects as they don’t get
allocation, he said he had no choice but to doff his hat for the deputy leader
of the house for going extra mile to facilitate the projects to her ward.
Hon. Agunsoye went on to describe Hon. Akinpelu as a gentle,
determined, focus and tenacious representative and assured she would go higher
places with her splendid performance.
Before the commencement of the community forum and rendering
of stewardship, the deputy house leader in conjunction with Medtest Libero
Foundation had provided Medical screening, drugs, eye glasses, on-the-spot
dental care and laboratory tests free of charge to hundreds of people in the
Ward who were in dire need of them.
She explained that she decided to provide the free medical
facilities to her people at her own expense in partnership with Medtest Libero
foundation in order to ensure their wellbeing.
She assured the people of her Ward of her commitment and
willingness to render more altruistic services to them before her tenure comes
to an end.
