SOFOLA DEBUNKS ALLEGATION OF PAYING OVER 2.5 MILLION UNDER DURESS TO LAGOS LAWMAKER, SANNI OKANLAWON

Kosofe Local Government has debunked the claim made by an online community media that its Executive Chairman, Hon. Afolabi Sofola made an inappropriate payment of over 2.5 million naira under duress to the Lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanni Okanlawon after he was pressured by the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The Local Government debunked the story of the online media through a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary and Senior Special Adviser on Press Matters to the council chairman, Taiwo Fadipe which was made available to Kosofe Reporters,

It described the news publication as “totally apocryphal, mischievous and figment of imagination”, stressing that the local government had never owed the lawmaker any money and neither had the lawmaker been receiving a monthly allowance which was stopped by the executive chairman.

It therefore appealed to the residents of the local government to ignore the story, stating that it was a deliberate attempt to pitch the local government and the Lagos State House of assembly against each other and to engender disaffection between him and the lawmaker.

The full Statement reads:

SOFOLA DID NOT PAY MILLIONS OF NAIRA AS ROYALTY TO HON. SANNI OKANLAWON

The attention of the executive chairman of Kosofe Local Government Hon. Afolabi Sofola has been drawn to a publication in a community online media, Kosofe Post, where it is stated that the executive chairman was forced by the Lagos State House of Assembly to pay over 2.5 million naira as accumulated royalty to the Lawmaker representing Kosofe constituency 1, Hon. Sanni Okanlawon.

We wish to use this medium to correct this misleading post and to also state categorically that the publication which was titled: " Sofola Bows To Pressure, Pays Millions of Royalty To Lawmaker Okanlawon" is totally apocryphal, mischievous and the figment of imagination of the online community media.

Kosofe Local Government, in the first instance, did not owe Hon. Sanni any money accruable as royalty at any point in time and neither had Hon. Sanni been receiving monthly allowances from the local government which was at a point stopped by the executive chairman.

Therefore, the executive chairman could not have been compelled by the Lagos state House of Assembly or by the Honourable Lawmaker himself to pay the said amount of money.

We urge the good people of Kosofe Local Government to disregard this apocryphal and mischievous story in its entirety. It is a calculated attempt by mischief makers to pitch the Local Government and Lagos state House Assembly against each other and, on the other hand, to damage the good relationship between the executive chairman and Hon. Sanni Okanlawon.
