Rights Group Petitions Sanwo-Olu Over Rights Violation, Extortion By Ministries
...... Accuses Lagos Transport Ministry of extorting car owners
A civil rights organization based in Lagos, the Save Lagos Group(SLG), has petitioned the Lagos Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu over the unjust victimisation of one Mr. Festus Daramola by the officials of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency(LASEPA) under the Ministry of Environment in connivance with
a syndicate.
It also accused the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation of extorting Car owners in the State by illegally collecting between N100,000 to N250,000 from any motorist that happened to be their victim at their office located opposite Shoprite in Ikeja Lagos, stating that the money collected was not remitted to the purse of the State Government base on its investigation.
The Rights Organization In a statement signed by its convener Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Ibrahim, disclosed that a motorist, name withheld, once fell victim to the nefarious activities of the officials of Lagos State Ministry of Transportation on Wednesday 13th Day of April, 2022 where a sum of Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000) was extorted from him.
And on the issue of rights violation by the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, It accused an official of the ministry, Mrs. Serah Amosun, of conniving with one Alhaja Abass to sell a house belonging to Alhaji Olaonipekun by fraudulent means without the knowledge of the house owner to force out Festus Daramola from the place he put his kiosk.
it explained that Mr. Daramola of No.4, Odutola Street, Oko-Oba area of Agege, Lagos erected a small kiosk made with plywood for business purposes in front of the house of Alhaji Olabode Olaonipeku, who rented out the space to Daramola.
The group, however, discovered after conducting its investigation that a crisis had earlier occurred between Alhaji Olaonipekun who is the Landlord of Festus Daramola and Alhaja Abass of No.4B, Odutola Street, Emmanuel Bus-Stop, Oko-Oba area of Agege, where Alhaja Abass had attempted to sell the house of Alhaji Olaonipekun without his knowledge, using Mrs. Amosun, the official of the Ministry of Environment who had also contacted official of LASEP under the Agege Zonal office.
Agege Zonal office of LASEPA was reported to have issued an invitation letter dated 25th of February, 2022 to Festus Daramola over the erection of a kiosk at Alhaji Olaonipekun's House to appear at its office on the 28th of February, 2022
When Agege Zonal office of LASEPA saw that Daramola had not violated any environmental law, they went back to remove all the Notices pasted on the kiosk.
But the decision did not go down well with Alhaja Abass who again asked her friend, Mrs. Amosun, to contact the State office of LASEPA
Consequently, another illegal letter dated 7th Day of April, 2022 on behalf of its General Manager was issued, summoning Mr. Festus Daramola to appear in their office again on 14th Day of April, 2022, over the kiosk.
The group, therefore, in its Petition Letter dated 11th Day of April, 2022 and signed by its Convener, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman and forwarded to the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the State Commissioner for Environment and other concerned authorities, called for the swift intervention of the state government over the matter.
