Rep Agunsoye while transferring the health facility to
the Lagos State Government made a passionate plea to the Governor for the
facility to be well equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment and staff.
Dr. Abayomi in his keynote address extolled Rep Rotimi
Agunsoye for his scintillating performance as a legislator and the quality representation
he provided the people of Kosofe federal constituency in his 8 years tenure.
“You are definitely a Promise Keeper and the number of
bills and motions you sponsored and moved on the floor of the House of Representatives,
and their range of interest is amazing
“You are a source in the armoury of Government that doesn’t
listen to criticisms. You follow your mind and how God speaks to you, and
deliver to your constituency, your state and Nigeria
“I am delighted to honour you and to take over the
building”: Dr. Abayomi remarked.
He assured Rep Agunsoye that the medical facility
which he described as the first of its kind in Lagos State would be
well equipped with modern facilities and efficiently used in promoting a wellness strategy for the
people of the constituency through a well- coordinated preventable medical
intervention programme.
While noting that the health facility could also become a General Hospital, he disclosed that a comprehensive assessment of the
facility had already being carried out and a modification would be done where
necessary.
And as a way of keeping the hospital busy, Dr. Abayomi
promised to give 1000 vulnerable members of the constituency free Social Health
Insurance Scheme for one year the moment the facility becomes operational.
He Said: “ What we are going to do once this facility
becomes operational, we will come here with our Ilera Eko van and we will do a
survey of your constituency and if we found 1000 members of your constituency
we consider to be living under poverty line we will give them free Health
Insurance Scheme for one year as a catalyst to ensure that this place becomes a
busy health facility.”
The State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress,
Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi praised Rep Agunsoye for bequeathing enduring legacy for
the people of Kosofe Federal Constituency, stressing that he touched and
empowered many people.
Recalling an empowerment programme where Rep Agunsoye had empowered 400 youths and women of his constituency with a sum of N100,000
each, he stated that he had always being proud of the performance of Rep
Agunsoye and always used it as reference whenever he addressed the people in
his constituency.
Hon. Ojelabi concluded by stating that the Lagos APC
would never forget the remarkable work of Rep Agunsoye and, therefore, called
on the leadership of the party in the federal constituency to come together and
form a formidable team for the success and progress of the party.
“Do you think with what Agunsoye has done to the
people of Kosofe Federal Constituency APC will forget him?
“For us that are leaders here, let’s come together,
let’s unite, let’s have a very formidable team and work for the betterment of
APC”: Ojelabi stated.
Earlier before the commissioning and handover of
facilitated project to the Lagos state Government, Rep. Agunsoye rendered
his account of stewardship before a large gathering of eminent personalities
and members of the All Progressives Congress.
The chairman house committee on Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs) while reeling out his landmark achievements in 8 years as member House

A
TIME AND A SEASON FOR EVERYTHING
STEWARDSHIP
– A SACRED TRUST: ACCOUNT OF STEWARDSHIP DELIVERED ON FRIDAY, 21ST
APRIL, 2023 AT THE COMMISSIONING AND HANDOVER OF 80-BED ULTRAMODERN PRIMARY HEALTH
CARE CENTRE AT EMMANUEL NURSERY/ PRIMARY SCHOOL, EMMANUEL HIGH STREET, OJOTA BY
HON. (PRINCE) ROTIMI AGUNSOYE, MEMBER REPRESENTING KOSOFE FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY
OF LAGOS STATE IN THE 9TH NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
All
Protocols Duly Observed.
Distinguished
Guests, Ladies
and Gentlemen.
I am delighted to be standing before you this day to
give my stewardship report to
you all and generations to come, so that history will be left to place us in
our rightful place. Regarding where I started and where I retired to a greater
height. According to Elder Quentin L.
Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles: “We serve our fellow men because that
is what we believe God wants us to do.”
We live in perilous times when many believe we are not
accountable to God and that leaders need not give accounts of stewardship to their
people. However, I believe that every public office held is a sacred trust
given by the people to whom we are accountable. Looking back through the years
to the start of this journey
in June 2015, the midst of the pandemic was one of the most
challenging and difficult tasks I never ever thought I would handle. It felt
like a journey embarked upon at a point of no return to nowhere.
It was indeed a time of uncertainty, fear, worry and
regret of coming into leadership at a watershed moment of human history. If I
had my way, I would never have
witnessed such a period because of the challenges we all faced. But God was
faithful as he saw us through the pains of that period. I felt so touched by
the plight of my constituents. I thank God we were able to recover albeit
slowly from that situation. The
reality set in when the issue of
my stewardship came up, just one thing struck me which I knew
then was the truth, that I was
elected and have done my best to improve the lot of my people despite the
different challenges we faced, and the way God came to intervene.
At first in 2015,
what I would do, how I was going to start and how I was
going to adjust were all to me, like tales in the moonlight. I trusted God to
see me through and was encouraged by my family, friends and a greater number of the
long-neglected people of the constituency. I decided
not to give up and take one step at a time. At every interval, I had
two planned programmes
drawn up, how it should be and alternative ways to go around it. I was prepared
for changes and honestly, it was never stable but somehow, we always pulled
through all. And as our tenure is ending, we can confidently say we have delivered
on our mandate.
I am grateful to have been blessed with a great team of dedicated aides who all went the extra mile for me.
Indeed,
they were great and did excellently well. They worked tirelessly in ensuring
that our aim and objectives were met. To God be the glory, we did not only
achieve our goals but we exceeded them. To my team, I say a big thank you once
again. Anchoring on your supports, we were
able to achieve the following together within the timeframe, for the good
people of Kosofe Federal
Constituency:
·
Quality
representation for the constituency in the 8th and 9th
National Assemblies
·
Youth
& Women Empowerment Programmes through collaboration with the Lagos State Government
·
Job
opportunities shared and aided through our intervention for qualified members
of the constituency
·
Technical
Sessions/Presentations geared towards human capacity building
·
Workshops/Seminars
for Women in Excellence and Young Emerging Professionals
·
Attendance
at regional and global summits of world leaders on issues of common interest
·
Increased

constituents and enforcement agencies.
·
Social
well-being programmes to targeted at closing identified major gaps
·
Sensitization
programmes on a safer and better constituency for schools, artisans and market
communities
·
Visits
to several organizations and companies in a bid to build cordial relationships that
creates opportunities for the people of Kosofe Federal Constituency.
·
Wide
publicity on global map and timely communication via official social media
handles that streamed live all our programs and got valuable feedbacks from the
constituents.
Permit me here to quote the words of Mary Kay Ash on
the power of human capability that go thus: “Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think
they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe,
remember, you can achieve.”
Today, I offer you all my gratitude and appreciation.
Personally, I feel very privileged to have friends and people like you in my
life for so long. You have been amazing supporters, advisers, confidants and worthy
travelers in the journey of life. Our gathering here today, as significant as
it is, was borne out of my fond desire to rejoice but also face the reality of
taking a cursory look at my journey so far - both in life and as someone who
keeps his promises of service to the people.
I cannot but take reminiscence into the journey of my
political life and its attached challenges and achievements from the beginning.
In my years of service as a Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy
Affairs in Lagos Sate, your tremendous support for the successes we all
achieved remain indelible in the annals of our dear state. The records are there for all to see. The
great people of Kosofe have been the pillar of support system I lean on, each
time the torrents of politics become higher.
As a grassroots politician with respect for leaders at
all levels and a modest representative of the illustrious people of Kosofe
Federal Constituency, I can say that what Kosofe needs at this time are
platforms that unite the people, encourage major players and stakeholders with
the drive to help our people navigate their ways out of the web of poverty. My
major concern for now is the relevance of Kosofe both within Lagos State
and the federal politics through the support of my colleagues, leaders,
and elders in the constituency. The result of my stewardship today is no longer
a hidden story. The social media are awash with records of our achievements. A
click on the site will reveal to anyone, my several contributions on the floor
of the House.
Be that as it may, those audio-visual
contributions are just a part of my several motions on matters of urgent
importance as well as bills on the floor of the House. All these are
outside other programmes influenced by my presence at the federal level.
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, the stewardship
account covers my bills/motions contributions in the House, oversight
functions, impactful projects, employments, human capacity programmes and welfare
programmes among other parts of an impressive scorecard we wrote together these
eight years of quality representation.

CONSTITUENCY PROJECTS
Despite the slow pace of government occasioned by the comatose
state the Buhari-led Administration met the nation's economy when it came on
board in 2015, I went into action using my experience in governance and
administration garnered from Lagos State to influence more Federal presence in
Kosofe with commendable Constituency Projects.
Although a bit late in coming due to some reasons, the
first batch of projects was no doubt a remarkable achievement in that they
served the dual purposes of service delivery on my campaign promises to my
constituents in line with our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC)
Manifesto. The federal constituency has since turned into a huge construction
site courtesy of the many facilitated projects dotting the landscapes of Kosofe

OVERSIGHT FUNCTIONS
As a member of the Federal House of Representatives, I
have served in several House Committees such as Defense, Human Rights,
Diaspora, Civil Society, Public Petition, Sports, and Delegated Legislation in
the 8th Assembly. This is capped by my present Chairmanship of the House
Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the current political dispensation;
a herculean task that involves me working round the clock to impact positively
in the lives of people, not only in Kosofe Federal Constituency but also in
Lagos State and many Nigerians across board.
CONSTITUENCY PROGRAMMES
I want to sound immodest here that my two-term tenure
has witnessed tremendous support from both within and outside my constituency
to ensure that peace and tranquility reign supreme with laudable programmes
being repeatedly executed without short-changing my people. We have most times
executed wealth creation programmes for my Constituents.
In less than a year in office, I came up in February
2016 with the Kosofe Federal Constituency Empowerment & Wealth Creation
Scheme, which according to dignitaries at the event was the first of its kind
in the entire country. This was an empowerment programme for Two Hundred (200) graduates
in different categories: job placement and skill acquisition in ICT,
Cosmetology, Solar Energy, Agriculture, Fashion Design, Cinematography, Graphics/Printing,
Catering & Hotel Management, Business Skills and Interior Design.
That was followed by other programmes which have
positively impacted the lives of people of Kosofe Federal Constituency as shown
by this record.

EMPLOYMENT
To help families within the constituency alleviate
their situation, my first and on-going second term in office as legislator have
been used to secure employments for unemployed graduates through the N-Power,
FRSC, Police and Paramilitary recruitment slots from the Federal Government.
All these are exclusive of the recommendations and referrals for job placements
in government establishments.
HEALTH CARE DELIVERY
As part of contributions towards health care delivery
to my Constituents, I donated a well-equipped ambulance to the Ameso Hospital to
serve the Hospital in emergency times. More so, the Kosofe Federal Constituency
under my watch leverages on a retainership with Ameso Specialist Hospital,
Ojota through which several surgeries have been sponsored by me for indigent
patients of my constituency.
In situations where the health challenge is beyond the
capacity of the hospital, patients got referral to the Lagos State University
Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). Here again, I must thank the Lagos State Government
through the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo and his
predecessor, Prof. David Adewale Oke and the CMD Gbagada General Hospital Dr. Olusegun
Joseph Babafemi for always coming to our rescue.
CONSTITUENCY WELFARE
The welfare of my constituents no doubt remains paramount
in my heart. This obviously explains the speed with which I always respond to
the distress calls of my people whenever urgent situations arise. A case in
question was the fire outbreak of the Plank & Building Materials section of
the popular Jakande Fruit Market in 2016, during which the victims were
immediately compensated with cash donations and relief materials. The same goes
for the 6th January, 2018 at the fire disaster at Aleniboro Plank
Market at Ojota. Several other financial welfare programmes and specially
demanding assistance have been attended to and are daily being given their
needed attention through my Constituency Offices.
Commendably, as reports so far reveal across the constituency,
our intervention efforts have been well appreciated by my constituents and this
has brought me closer to my people. It is to the glory of God Almighty that we
make appreciable impact in the lives of indigent people in different aspects of
life's challenges ranging from tuition fees, hospital bills, financial assistance
and medical assistance etc.
Also worthy of note are the distribution of over 150
mini-buses to beneficiaries of my youth empowerment scheme, provision of
financial grant of N100,000 each to 400 youth and women after putting through
intensive training on different vocations and my collaborative effort with the Ikeja
Electricity Distribution Company to have transformers installed in areas having
electricity challenges.
Our relationship with faith-based bodies and religious
organizations within and outside the constituency remains very cordial as ever.
I use every opportunity to felicitate with my constituents during festive
periods. As such, no expense is ever spared in the distribution of supportive needs
such as rams, fowls, bags of rice and other gift items during Muslim and
Christian festive periods. This is aside the annual ROT Youths Christmas Carol
and the ROT Youths Ramadan Lecture organized by the youth wing of my support
group.
COVID-19 EMERGENCY RESPONSE
This address will not be complete
without me mentioning the personal efforts and some of the intervention
programmes I facilitated to see my constituents through the devastating effects
of the Covid-19 pandemic.
(1) Stay-safe/Ramadan Intervention
(2) Conditional Cash Transfer of Fifty Thousand Naira to
One Hundred & Fifty constituents
(3) Donation of a van to the perishable food section of
Mile 12 International Market during the lockdown
(4) CBN Targeted Credit Facility
All these were made possible working with a wonderful
team and dedicated professionals who gave their best in ensuring that I
succeeded. In all, I am grateful to God for the enabling grace to achieve these
during the years of my stewardship.
Countless thanks to my wife, family and true friends for their
understanding and support through thick and thin during this period. To my leaders and followers, thanks for
working smoothly with me. Be
faithful to keep the understanding that the Almighty God still runs the affairs
of men.
To the glory of
God, one of the dividends of good governance that has always been a tough task
for me to deliver to my constituents will henceforth be done with ease with the
commissioning of the 80-Bed Ultramodern Primary Health Care Centre, standing
right here in Ojota Nursery/Primary School as my legacy project and parting
gift to the good people of Kosofe Federal Constituency.
I, therefore,
would be calling on His Excellency,
Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu, ably represented by the Commissioner
of Health, to step forward for the official commissioning and hand-over of the Ultra-modern
80-Bed Primary Health Care Centre.
Thank you for your cooperation and sacrifices made. To
you all,
you were wonderful in giving your best. I appreciate you all.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
