Kosofe LG Commemorates Independence Anniversary With First-of-its-kind March Parade By A Local Government.
*Moyosore Ogunlewe reiterates Commitment to Provision of Quality Education
*Rewards Participating Schools With Cash Prizes
*Calls For Unity and Support of Tinubu's Administration.
The Kosofe Local Government under the leadership of Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe on October 1st, 2023 commemorated Nigeria's 63rd Independence Anniversary with the first-of-its-kind March Parade by any Local Government in Lagos State.
The March Parade was held at the Emmanuel Primary School, Ojota and was attended by pupils from various schools, local government officials, head teachers, Nigeria Legions and Neighbourhood watch.
The parade featured colorful displays of patriotism and unity by the participating pupils, the Nigerian Legions and the Lagos State Neighborhood Watch.
The event was aimed at instilling national pride and reinforcing the significance of Nigeria's independence in the hearts and minds of the younger generation.
In his congratulatory message to Nigerians, Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe expressed his appreciation for the invaluable contributions made by the citizens towards national development. He highlighted the need for unity and called on Nigerians to work together to achieve a better future for the country and support the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to revamp the economy and set it on the path of prosperity.
The Council Chairman also in his speech made an important announcement regarding the state of Public Primary Schools in the Kosofe Local Government area.
He declared that he would be visiting all primary schools within his jurisdiction from Wednesday to assess and address any challenges they may be facing.
He added that he would use the opportunity of the visit to provide free writing materials to the schools as part of his commitment to aid academic learning.
Barrister Ogunlewe also announced the plan of his administration to procure two buses for the primary schools in the local government to commute the pupils to their various schools.
The Chairman further emphasized the commitment of the local government to providing quality education to the pupils of primary schools in Kosofe Local Government Area and assured that immediate steps would be taken to complete the construction of Mosafejo Primary School.
"As young minds, we have the power to shape our nation's future. Strive for education, equality, and kindness to all without exception.
"Sustain our cultural heritage while embracing modern ideas. Let's pledge to work together, break barriers, and build a better Nigeria that the next generation will be proud of.
"In the Education sector, our administration has given out 775 free GCE Forms, and 1,300 Free Jamb forms to students to encourage and support their quest for knowledge.
"All the Public Primary Schools will be visited next week to ascertain the real position of the school challenges.
"The completion of Mosafejo Primary School will commence any moment from now and will be completed before the year runs out.
"I am quite aware of the present state of our schools and I promise to pick them up any moment soon.
"Writing materials such as Exercise books, mathematical sets, etc. will be made available to all our pupils in the next couple of weeks", he stated.
At the end of the exercise, Barrister Ogunlewe announced surprise cash rewards for all the participating schools.
Anglican Primary School, Ogudu which was adjudged overall best was rewarded with a cash of N100,000 naira by the council chairman, while Maryland and Mosafejo Primary Schools were rewarded with N50,000 and N30,000 respectively.
And other schools that participated in the Independence March parade went home with N20,000 cash each.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Council Manager, Mr. Fatai Olalere while congratulating Nigerians on the independence anniversary, urged the pupils to view the Independence March Parade as a memorable experience they would remember with joy in their adulthood.
While stating that the future of any pupil begins with basic education, he praised the Council Chairman for his commitment and determination to improve the quality of education and upgrade education facilities in Kosofe Local Government Area.
The Education Secretary Kosofe Local Government Area, Mr. Babatunde Soneye who gave the vote of thanks, commended Barrister Ogunlewe for choosing to celebrate the Independence Anniversary with the pupils, noting that the memorable experience would linger on forever in their minds.
The march parade was graced by the APC Kosofe LGA Chairman, Alhaji Kehinde Bello; Kosofe Local Government Head of Administration, Mr. Fatai Olalere, Education Secretary, Kosofe Local Government, Mr. Babatunde Soneye and the executive members of Kosofe Local Government.
