Woman killed as container falls on car at Alapere along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway

A woman was reportedly killed on Friday in an accident that occurred at N.N.P.C inward Alapere, Ogudu along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos when a fully loaded container on Mack articulated vehicle fell on a Nissan Car with registration ABJ 692 BG


The woman was said to be sitting at the back of the car at the time of the accident while the driver of the Nissan Car surprisingly survived unhurt.


According to the press statement issued by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the accident occurred when the  Mack articulated vehicle with 40ft fully loaded container on a high speed lost control due to brake failure and rammed into Nissan car also on motion.


However, the driver of the Mack articulated truck and his motor-boy disappeared into the thin air immediately the fatal accident occurred.


According to LASTMA official Alabi Olukayode (Zone 2, Ogudu/Alapere), the body of the deceased accident victim has been handed over to the men of the Nigeria Police from Alapere Police Station. 


He also disclosed that LASTMA officials, the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU), Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Police were the emergency responders involved in the rescue operations at the scene of the accident. 


Also at the accident scene were the LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki; LASTMA Director of Traffic Incidents, Event Monitoring, Enforcement and Compliance, Mr. Hakeem Adeosun and the LASTMA rescue team. 


General Manager of LASTMA Mr. Olalekan Bakare Oki, however, warned motorists particularly truck drivers to stop overspeeding and ensure their vehicles are properly checked including the braking system before embarking on any journey within or outside the State.
