2027 RACE HEATS UP IN KOSOFE AS ABBEY CHECHE, TOYIN BALOGUN DECLARE AMBITIONS ~Owokoya eyes House of Reps ticket, Balogun joins Lagos Assembly contest in Kosofe II

The political atmosphere in Kosofe is gathering pace ahead of the APC primary elections in May 2026 as two prominent All Progressives Congress figures, Abiodun Owokoya and Toyin Balogun, formally declared their ambitions for legislative seats.

Abiodun Owokoya, popularly known as Abbey Cheche, has joined the race for the House of Representatives in Kosofe Federal Constituency. Owokoya is not new to the contest. He vied for the APC House of Representatives ticket in the 2023 primaries, building a strong grassroots network across federal constituency.

A businessman and community mobilizer, Abbey Cheche is well known for youth empowerment programmes and constituency outreach.

In a related development, Toyin Balogun has declared interest in the Lagos State House of Assembly race for Kosofe Constituency II. Balogun is a familiar face in APC circles within the constituency. He contested for the APC Assembly ticket in 2023 and also sought the chairmanship of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA in 2025.

Balogun, a grassroots politician and party mobilizer in Ikosi-Isheri, said his ambition is anchored on quality representation, improved social services, and stronger collaboration between the legislature and state government.

Kosofe Federal Constituency covers one of the most politically active areas in Lagos East, with a large voting population spread across Kosofe LGA and Ikosi-Isheri LCDA. Kosofe Constituency II, one of two state assembly seats in the area, includes major communities in Ikosi, Isheri, Olowo-Ira, and Shangisha.

With Owokoya and Balogun now in the field, the 2027 contest in Kosofe is expected to draw more aspirants in the coming days. Party ward congresses and delegate selection will be key to determining who picks the APC tickets for the House of Representatives and Lagos Assembly seats.
