ALABI KOLADE DAVID LOCKS DOWN MAJOR ENDORSEMENTS AS AGO-EGUN, WARD LEADERS, YOUTH GROUPS, TRADITIONAL RULERS BACK REPS BID
The race for Somolu Federal Constituency intensified this week as Hon. Alabi Kolade David, former Executive Chairman of Bariga LCDA and immediate past National President of ALGON, received a wave of endorsements from community leaders, youth blocs, ward executives, and traditional institutions backing his bid for the House of Representatives in 2027.
Delegations from the Ago-Egun community, Ward stakeholders, Stand Out Group, LASCOTA, Agbekoya, Baales, the Egun Community, League of Bariga Coaches, Somolu Youth Network, and APC-aligned singer groups all paid separate courtesy visits to Hon. Alabi, pledging bloc votes and grassroots mobilisation for the APC ahead of 2027.
The endorsements began with the entire Ago-Egun community, led by acting Baale Mr. Felix Joseph, his chiefs, and youth representatives. Speaking on behalf of residents, Mr. Joseph said the community’s support was “earned, not promised,” citing empowerment programmes executed in Ago-Egun during Alabi’s tenure as Bariga LCDA Chairman.
“We appreciate Hon. Alabi Akolade David for various empowerment programs done for Ago-Egun residents when he was chairman,” the Baale said. “Because of his past achievements, we pledge total support for him as an aspirant for the House of Representatives, Somolu Federal Constituency.”
Mr. Joseph prayed that “God Almighty will grant all the heart's desire of Hon. Alabi Akolade David,” and promised that “Ago-Egun residents will come out en masse to vote for APC come 2027.”
A few hours later, a larger coalition arrived in a joint solidarity visit. The Stand Out Group, LASCOTA, leaders and executives of Wards E, D and H, Agbekoya, Baales from across the constituency, Adesina Gents Forum, youths and leaders of the Egun Community, the League of Bariga Coaches, and representatives of various APC Singers groups all took turns to affirm support.
Leaders of the delegations described Alabi as “a bridge-builder with a deep understanding of Somolu’s needs,” pointing to his “accessibility, past interventions, and consistent engagement with traditional institutions, youth groups, and professional bodies.”
“The confidence is not sentiment; it is based on record. He listens to party structures and delivers without excuses,” one Ward E leader said.
Responding, Hon. Alabi expressed profound gratitude for the overwhelming show of support. He reiterated his pledge of quality representation, inclusive governance, and people-centred legislation, if given the mandate, and urged the groups to remain steadfast and peaceful as they work toward a new era for Somolu Federal Constituency.
On April 21, 2026, the League of Former Ward Chairmen, Leaders and Executives of Ward A, alongside the Somolu Youth Network, added their weight behind Alabi.
In a joint statement, they said their endorsement was not built on sentiment, but on a solid track record of service, delivery, and grassroots connection that has transformed lives across Bariga and beyond.
The groups listed modern Primary Health Centres, youth empowerment programs, and road infrastructure as visible, functional and people-centred projects from his council tenure.
The Somolu Youth Network specifically highlighted skills acquisition programs, support for small businesses, and inclusion of youths in local governance, arguing that the same energy is what Somolu Federal Constituency needs in Abuja — a representative who will fight for jobs, education, and opportunities.
“For the former ward chairmen, loyalty is to performance,” the statement read. They recalled how he ran an open-door administration. If he transformed Bariga as council chairman, he would do even more as a federal lawmaker with wider capacity and reach.”
The Ward A coalition called on all delegates, party faithful, and the good people of Somolu Federal Constituency to support Hon. Alabi Kolade David for House of Representatives. He has been tested in Bariga and trusted by the grassroots. Now is the time to send proven capacity to Abuja.
The string of endorsements consolidates Alabi’s standing as the aspirant to beat in the APC primary for Somolu Federal Constituency. With traditional rulers, Egun leaders, youth networks, ex-ward chairmen, and Ward E, D, H, and A structures aligning within one week, party insiders say his “ground game” is now the most organised in the race.
Ago-Egun’s public pledge to “come out en masse to vote for APC” also signals potential expansion beyond Bariga LCDA into Somolu LGA wards, a key battleground in the federal constituency that comprises 12 wards — 6 in Bariga, 6 in Somolu.
Hon. Alabi, a lawyer and PhD candidate in Public Administration, served two terms as Bariga LCDA Chairman, led Conference 57 of Lagos council chairmen, and until recently was National President of ALGON.
With primaries set for Q2 2026, the endorsements give Alabi early momentum. As one Baale put it during the solidarity visit: “We are not just following a politician. We are following performance.”
