KOSOFE LG BEGINS 774,000 JOBS TRAINING, AS SOFOLA URGES YOUTH TO SHOW COMMITMENT
The much talked about Federal Government 774,000 jobs under Extended Special Public Works (ESPW) for unemployed youth and vulnerable people in all the local Government Councils in the country has finally taken off in Kosofe Local Government as National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has started training the shortlisted beneficiaries of the programme at the council’s secretariat.
The Kosofe Local Government chapter of the programme was flagged off by the Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Hon. Afolabi Sofola at the council’s secretariat on Wednesday February 18 as the beneficiaries of the programme from the local government, Agboyi-Ketu and Ikosi-Isheri LCDA were apprised of the programme’s modalities, duration and benefits while training commenced the same day.
The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) principal executive officer, Mrs. Adedoyin Ige while addressing the beneficiaries, disclosed that the duration of the programme is 3 months while beneficiaries also stand a chance of benefitting from other programmes of the Directorate after successful completion of the ongoing one.
Mrs. Ige explained that beneficiaries who are interested in learning poultry, farming, fishing etc. after completing the ESPW programme would have to proceed to the next stage which is Rural Employment Promotions (REP).
While those who want to engage in small scale businesses or want to acquire vocational skills such as tailoring, fashion designing, etc. would proceed to Small Scale Enterprises (SSE) and Vocational Development Programme respectively.
She expatiated further that under the SSE programme interested persons would have access to loan facility once their feasibility studies have been approved after undergoing successful training.
While those undergoing training under Vocational Development Programme would have to move from Basic National Open Apprehentiship Scheme to the Advance stage before they could be able to get resettlement kits or equipment that go along with their Vocations such as Catering, Fashion designing etc.
Kosofe Local Government Chairman was represented at the event by his Chief of Staff Hon. Fatai Gbadebo and Head of Administration Mr. MBS Arole.
The representatives of the council chairman implored the beneficiaries to pursue the programme with seriousness and diligence by being punctual and attending the programme regularly.
They assured the NDE officials of the readiness of the local government to assist the Directorate during the course of the programme, saying that the council chairman is very much interested in it as the programme has the capacity of elevating the status of youth and the vulnerable.
