Lagos Lawmaker, Sanni Okanlawon, to Stage Secondary Schools Debate Competition in Kosofe Constituency I


*Says the contest is to prime the students for leadership positions.

*Winner to become a one-day legislator representing Kosofe Constituency 1 

The lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Sanni Ganiyu Okanlawon, is all set to stage a Secondary Schools Debate Competition for his Constituents on Wednesday.

The debate competition which is tagged:  "Hon Okla Sponsored Kosofe Constituency 1 Secondary Schools Debate Competition"  will take place at Immaculate Heart Event Hall, Maryland by 10:00 am.


And the Topic for debate is: "SHOULD GOVERNMENT SPEND MORE MONEY ON SECURITY THAN EDUCATION"


According to the sponsor of the debate competition, Hon. Okanlawon, the Winner (Student/Teacher) of the debate competition will go home with a cash prize of #250,000, Second place #150,000 and third place #100,000. While there are consolidation prizes of T-Shirts for other debaters.

In addition, the winner of the contest will be given the rare privilege, of being the legislator representing Kosofe Constituency 1 for a day and will be taken round the Lagos State House of Assembly.


The winner will also meet with the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II.


The Chairman House Committee on Education (Ministry and Agencies), explained that the initiative is geared towards developing the students' critical thinking capabilities, vocabulary prowess, building the spirit of sportsmanship, instilling and boosting their self-confidence, developing them in the art of public speaking and nurturing them for leadership positions in the future.


He further disclosed that the debate competition is in line with the Education and Technology components of the T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda of the Lagos State administration to improve the learning outcomes of students in public secondary schools across Kosofe Constituency 1.
