MOYO OGUNLEWE ASSURES LOCAL GOVERNMENT SERVICES COMMISSION ON STAFF WELFARE, CAPACITY BUILDING.




The Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe has reiterated the commitment of his administration to the provision of adequate welfare packages to the council’s workers to enhance their efficiency.


Barrister  Moyosore Ogunlewe made the statement yesterday during the statutory visit of the commissioners of the Lagos Government Service Commission to the local government secretariat.


The Council Chairman while addressing the commissioners acknowledged the diligence and support the management and staff of the council had given him since assuming office.


He, therefore, gave assurance of his administration’s commitment to enhancing the productivity of the workers through adequate provision of welfare packages and other beneficial working conditions.


The Chairman however noted that for his administration to be able to achieve the workers’ objectives the Internally Generated Revenue of the Local Government would have to be enhanced.


To this end, he informed the commissioners that his administration is about to conclude revenue enumeration of shops and business centres domiciled in Kosofe, assuring that next time the commission come visiting, the offices of the workers who have been transformed.  


In his response, the Chairman of the Local Government service commission Hon. Kamal Ayinde Bayewu thanked the council Chairman for attaching great importance to workers' welfare and capacity building.


While expressing confidence in the ability of the council boss to mobilise required resources and deliver on his electoral promises, he urged him to make provision for staff bus in the supplementary budget of the council, noting that the issue of staff bus had been on for about three years.


Also speaking at the event was Hon Akeem  Bamgbola, Commissioner representing Lagos Division, charged the workers of the local government to be diligent in the discharge of their responsibilities and assist the council chairman in shoring up the IGR of the local government.


While bemoaning the dwindling figures of Internally Generated revenue of Local Government Councils in Lagos state, he impressed it on the workers that they have an important role to play in enhancing the IGR of the council for prompt payments of their welfare packages.


While the Permanent Secretary of LGSC Establishment and Training, Mrs Kikelomo harped on the significance of good information management, leveraging on ICT and staff deployment.


Mrs Kikelomo condemned some staff behaviour in sharing confidential information about the offices of the local government chairman and head of administration to the outside world, warning that such an act goes against the rules and regulations of the commissions.


She, therefore, warned that the commissions would not hesitate to take punitive actions against any staff found wanting. 


The permanent Secretary equally appealed to the council chairman to key into the Information Communication Technology (ICT) policy drive of the Lagos Government to pilot the activities of the local government by making adequate provision for the office of ICT personnel deployed to the local government.


And on the issue of staff deployment, Mrs Kikelomo sounded a note of warning to staff who refused posting instructions to another local government, urging them to desist from doing so as it is a grave offence punishable by dismissal.


While noting that the essence of redeployment is to enhance the working experience of the workers, he advised the Head of Human Resources to always promptly issue letters of release to staff going out and certificate of assumption of duty to the staff coming in to guide against the ugly trend.
