OKLA UNITY CUP ENDS IN GRAND STYLE AS MARYLAND UNITED FC WINS MAIDEN EDITION

Maryland United FC of Mende has become the winners of the
maiden edition of Okla Unity Cup sponsored by the Lawmaker representing Kosofe
Constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanni Okanlawon.
In the final match of the grassroots football competition
played on Sunday before a delirious crowd at Beko Ransome-Kuti Playing Ground,
Anthony, Maryland United FC defeated Sporting Royal of Oworoshoki by 2 – 0 in a
pulsating encounter to lift the giant gold trophy.
Along with the trophy, Maryland United FC went home with a cash
prize of N500,000 while Sporting Royal went home with a cash prize of N300,000.
In the 3rd place match also played yesterday at the
same venue, Kaakaki FC defeated Honour FC 2 – 0 to win a cash prize of
N200,000.
The two goals were scored in each half of the keenly contested
match.
Apart from cash prizes, individual awards were also given to
deserving players.
The coach of Maryland United FC, I.K Mba was adjudged as the
best coach while Anthony All-Stars won the Fair Play Award.
Tunde Onifade of Sporting Royal with 4 goals won the Golden
Boot Award, Goal Keeper Samson Akingbade also of Sporting Royal won the Golden
Glove Award while the MVP award went to Francis Etuk of Maryland United FC.
The Sponsor of the grassroots Football Competition, Hon. Sanni
Okanlawon, in an interview with newsmen, expressed satisfaction with the
organization of the competition describing it as a huge success.
The visibly elated lawmaker fondly called “Okla” by his
teeming admirers, noted that the competition had achieved its goal and objectives
of unity through social bonding, harnessing of latent talents of burgeoning
footballers, providing a veritable platform for young ones to display their skills,
and weaning the youth away from social vices.
He, therefore, made a passionate plea to well-meaning people
in the society to organize similar competitions to positively engage the youth
and rid the society of untoward vices.
The final event of the Okla Unity Competition was graced by the
Lawmaker representing Alimosho Constituency 1, Hon. Kehinde Joseph; the former
Chief of Staff to Kosofe Local Government Chairman, Prince Fatai Gbadebo;
Kosofe APC LGA chairman, Alhaji Kehinde Bello; Former Local Government Service
Commissioner, Hon. Busayo Adebayo; Mr. Omo Alufhai representing the executive
chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe; Kosofe Leader
of the House, Mr. Idowu Oluloro; Kosofe CDC chairman, Mr. Segun Babatunde and
former Chairmanship aspirant, Otunba Tunde Balogun.
Others are Ward A councilor, Mr. Sunday Omofojoye; former Supervisor for Agric, Sport, Youth & Rural Mr. Oyeyemi Oyetayo; Baale of Anthony, Chief Anthony Yusuf and Baale of Ayetoro Ajegunle, Chief Saheed Fakunle.
