MOYO OGUNLEWE FLAGS OFF TREE PLANTING EXERCISE IN KOSOFE, CHARGES RESIDENTS TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE

The executive chairman of Kosofe Local Government Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe has charged the residents of the local government area to sustain the culture of tree planting to protect the environment from the radical effect of climate change.

Barrister Ogunlewe made the charge on Thursday at the local government Secretariat while flagging off the year 2022 tree planting exercise in the local government.
The council chairman who was represented by his Vice-Chairman Mr. Oluwole Sosanya stressed that tree planting is very vital to the wellbeing and survival of the human race as it is the only natural option to ameliorate the negative effects of climate change resulting from the depletion of the Ozone layer.

While attributing the depletion of the ozone layer to prejudicial human activities such as gas flaring, and wood burning, among others, he urged the Kosofe residents to sustain the culture of tree planting to protect themselves from the effects of carbon monoxide emission into the atmosphere.
"The unsavoury and unpleasant practices of cutting down trees have to be checked. We should put a stop to cutting down trees, rather our efforts should be directed towards planting trees to save the Earth.

"I must say that when we kill trees, we kill life, reduce biological diversity and cheat our children out of a healthy environment": Barrister Ogunlewe said.
In his keynote address, the deputy governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat said environmental crisis did not begin globally, it started locally, saying humanity must reconnect with and be in harmony with nature.

The Deputy Governor who was represented by Mrs. Taiwo Cole, explained that the tradition of tree planting in the state had been on for a decade and had contributed to a healthier and greener environment.
Speaking on the theme: "In harmony with Nature", Dr. Hamzat said the theme was a strong reminder of the necessity of living in harmony with nature, adding that it is worthy of note that climate action is now mainstream in the plan of the state government climate Action plan (2020-2025).

Also speaking at the event, Secretary to the local government, Hon. Fatai Gbadebo stated that tree planting is very important to the well-being of every society.
While noting the negative effects of carbon monoxide emission into the atmosphere, he urged Kosofe residents to stay healthy by planting and nurturing trees.

The highlight of the event was the planting of trees in the local government by Mr. Oluwole Sosanya, Hon. Gbadebo, Mrs. Taiwo Cole, Mrs. A. A Ogabi, Baale Araromi Chief Oriola Onalaja and Baale Soluyi II Chief Solomon Olamiju
