OWORO CDA VEHICLEGATE: SANNI OKANLAWON SAVES POLITICAL ALLY, SEGUN BABATUNDE, FROM PROSECUTION; UNDERTAKES TO BUY A BRAND NEW VEHICLE FOR OWORO CDA, AS PROSECUTION OF KOSOFE CDC CHAIR, OTHERS IS PUT ON HOLD TILL APRIL
~Zone 2 Police To Prosecute Segun Babatunde, Others If Okla Reneges On His Promise In April
The prosecution of Kosofe Local Government CDC Chairman, Mr. Segun Babatunde and some executive members of Oworonshoki Joint CDA over an allegation of fraudulent disposal of Oworonshoki community vehicle for scrap has been put on hold till April following an agreement reached between the Lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanni Okanlawon and the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 2 Police Command Headquarters, DCP Bose Akinyemi.
Hon. Sanni Okanlawon on Wednesday reportedly signed an undertaking at Zone 2 Police Command to buy a brand new vehicle for Oworonshoki Community to replace the one allegedly sold by Mr. Segun Babatunde and some members of Oworonshoki Joint CDA.
Hon. Okanlawon signed the undertaking before Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bose Akinyemi and in the presence of Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe, the Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government.
Hon. Okanlawon and Barrister Ogunlewe had accompanied the alleged gang to Zone 2 Police Command where they were quizzed over the fraudulent disposal of a community vehicle to a scrap dealer at Owode-Oniri.
About 20 members of Oworonshoki Joint CDA were quizzed at the Zone 2 Police Command Headquarters on Monday and Wednesday; notable among them are Taiwo Olaniyi aka Iya Onike, Toyin Oluwo, Pastor Allen who is a clergyman at Redeemed Church of Christ, Sikiru Odularan aka Skido; Babalola Balogun and Samuel Oruesatjo.
Kosofe Reporters gathered that Hon. Okanlawon decided to wade into the "Oworonshoki vehiclegate scandal" to save the face of his political ally, Segun Babatunde who is the CDC Chairman of Kosofe Local Government and forestall the zone 2 Police Command from taking the matter to the court of law.
It was gathered that the CDC Chairman had rushed to the house of the Lawmaker on Tuesday morning after honouring the invitation of the police command headquarters on Monday.
The Lawmaker immediately put a call accross to Oloworo of Oworonshoki Kingdom, Oba Babatunde Saliu pleading on their behalf.
Kosofe Reporters understands that the zone 2 Police Command Headquarters will, however, go ahead with the prosecution of Mr. Segun Babatunde and 20 others should the Lawmaker reneges on his promise before the end of April.
Kosofe Reporters further gathered that the Lagos Lawmaker had a torrid moment before the Deputy Commissioner of police could grant his plea due to non-fulfilment of a similar undertaking signed by the Chairman of Kosofe Local Government when the CDC Chairman was alleged to have fraudulently relocated a transformer belonging to Adebare community.
The case of fraudulent relocation of a transformer belonging to Adebare Community to another community in Oworonshoki by Segun Babatunde is still pending with the zone 2 Police Command Headquarters.
According to a prominent member of Oworonshoki community who was present at the interrogation, Asiwaju of Oworonshoki Kingdom, Alhaji Tajudeen Ashiru, it took the intervention of Oloworo of Oworonshoki Kingdom, Oba Babatunde Saliu before the plea of Okla could be granted.
According to Asiwaju of Oworonshoki Kingdom, "DCP Akinyemi was very livid with Babatunde and his cohorts for complicating the situation on ground by showing a Photoshop image of another vehicle claiming it was the one they sold.
"When the DCP told them the enormity of the crime they have committed may push them into Kirikiri prison as the original picture of the vehicle and video evidence of who and where they sold the vehicle to are with them, Okla and Moyo had no choice but to make a plea on their behalf.
"It was when Okla got in touch with Oloworo that his request to buy a new vehicle was granted by the DCP. The DCP had insisted on taking the matter to court.
"But the matter is still pending at Zone 2. If Okla failed on his promise in April, Segun Babatunde and his accomplices will be prosecuted.
The Asiwaju of Oworonshoki, however, wondered why a person of Hon. Okanlawon's status would accompany people of questionable characters to Zone 2 Police Command.
Alhaji Ashiru disclosed that at point, Hon. Okanlawon felt visibly ashamed when DCP Akinyemi was giving Babatunde and his accomplices a severe dress-down.
He said, "I wonder why it is the person of Hon. Okla's calibre that would accompany Segun Babatunde and his partners in crime to zone 2 Police Command.
"In fact, the way and manner DCP Akinyemi railed at, lambasted, pilloried and humiliated Segun Babatunde and his accomplices made Okla feel ashamed of himself to the extent that he vowed never to be involved in a similar incident again," Alh Ashiru said.
The Lawmaker was also reported to have admitted that the CDC Chairman and his accomplices committed a criminal offence which could send them to prison and warned that he would never intervene in any criminal offence they commit again.
Asiwaju of Oworonshoki further disclosed that he had also warned the Kosofe Local Government Chairman, Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe not to give Mr. Segun Babatunde access to the newly-built Oworonshoki Primary Health Centre at Olojojo, stressing that materials in the Health Centre had not been properly documented.
He said he told the council Boss that should Babatunde have access to the Primary Health Centre, then materials in it would disappear in no time.
