Floods: Moyo Ogunlewe Initiates Comprehensive Desilting Of Drainage Systems Across Kosofe LGA
In his bid to alleviate the perennial issue of flooding and improve the drainage systems, Kosofe Local Government Executive Chairman, Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe has embarked on a comprehensive desilting and declogging of all water channels in the local government area.
The initiative comes as heavy rains and clogged drainages have caused considerable hardship to residents and disrupted commercial and social activities in some areas of the local government.
The desilting initiative which began last week has seen drainages in areas such as; Adebayo Mokoulu Street( Anthony), Bush Street( Anthony), Ajayi Amina Street (Ifako), Diya Steet (Ifako), Faramobi Ajike Street (Anthony), Miyaki Street (Oworo), Gafari Balogun Street (Ogudu) and Ogudu Road (Barracks) being cleared by men of Environmental department of the council.
And on Wednesday the men of the environmental department were at Ajayi Aina Street, Diya Street, and Oworo Sandfield in continuation of desilting and declogging of drainage exercise to enable free flow of rainwater.
The stagnant water has not only hampered movement within the community but has also posed serious health hazards to residents, with concerns about the spread of waterborne diseases.
In response to these challenges, Kosofe Local Government mobilized a team of workers and equipment to commence comprehensive desilting of drainage in the areas being affected by constant floods.
The initiative, according to the local government chairman, aims to clear the drainages of dirt, debris, and other obstructions that impede the smooth flow of water in the rainy season and enhance the overall living conditions of the residents.
He, therefore warned the residents against indiscriminate waste disposal, urging them to always keep their wastes at a point where the LAWMA workers can easily pack them.
