Lagos Police Withdraw Taskforce From Traffic Duties
The Lagos State Police Command has directed the immediate and complete withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) from traffic control and enforcement of traffic offences across the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, gave the directive as part of efforts to streamline traffic management operations and ensure professionalism, accountability and clarity in the discharge of duties.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the unit’s withdrawal is limited to traffic-related responsibilities, while all other assigned duties and operational mandates remain fully in force.
The command also clarified that the Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit is not the only taskforce operating in Lagos, advising residents and motorists to always verify the identity of personnel and agencies before making allegations, particularly on traffic enforcement matters.
“The Lagos State Police Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring that all operations within the State are carried out in accordance with the law and best practices,” the statement read.
Members of the public were urged to remain law-abiding and cooperate with legitimate security agencies.
