Oloworo To Take Legal Action Over Installation of Oba Kabir Saliu as Olu of Oko Baba Agba

The Oloworo of Oworonshoki Kingdom, Oba Babatunde Saliu, may institute legal proceedings against the recent presentation of the Staff of Office to Oba Kabir Bashir Adesegun Saliu as the Olu of Oko Baba Agba in Kosofe Local Government Area by the Lagos State Government.

A reliable source within the palace of the Oloworo, who spoke on condition of anonymity to Kosofe Reporters , said Oba Babatunde Saliu was displeased with the development, insisting that there was no recognised community known as Oko Baba Agba within or immediately adjoining the Oworonshoki Kingdom.

According to the source, the Oloworo had already instructed his legal counsel to commence appropriate legal action over what he described as the state government's recognition and installation of a monarch over a community whose existence and status were being disputed.

The palace source further disclosed that Oba Babatunde Saliu had spoken with Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, over the matter and was expected to travel to Abuja on Saturday to meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and discuss the development.

The source described the recognition of Oba Kabir Saliu as the Olu of Oko Baba Agba by the Lagos State Government as unacceptable and legally questionable, stressing that the palace was not aware of any community by that name within Oworonshoki.

“The Oloworo is not happy with the presentation of the Staff of Office because there is no community known as Oko Baba Agba within or beside Oworonshoki Kingdom,” the source said.

The development followed Friday's formal presentation of the Staff of Office by Governor Sanwo-Olu to Oba Kabir Bashir Adesegun Saliu as the Olu of Oko Baba Agba, described by the Lagos State Government as a community bordering Oworonshoki in Kosofe Local Government Area.

The ceremony, held at the Kosofe Local Government Secretariat, attracted residents, family members, friends, traditional rulers, community leaders and other dignitaries.

With the presentation, the Lagos State Government formally recognised Oba Kabir Saliu as the traditional ruler of Oko Baba Agba and conferred on him the authority associated with the office.

The new monarch received the Staff of Office amid cheers and jubilation, while residents subsequently took to the streets to celebrate what they described as a historic moment for the community.

Also present at the ceremony were the Permanent Secretary and senior officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, as well as prominent traditional rulers from Kosofe and neighbouring communities.

Among those in attendance was the Onikosi of Kosi and other notable monarchs within the council area.

However, the palace of the Oloworo is now challenging the development, with the source insisting that the monarch's legal team is expected to seek judicial clarification on the status of Oko Baba Agba and the basis for the Lagos State Government's recognition of Oba Kabir Saliu.

The planned legal action, if instituted, could put the disputed traditional jurisdiction and the circumstances surrounding the creation and recognition of the Oko Baba Agba stool before the courts.
